As I have been looking at the resurrection appearances as found in Luke 24 in preparation for this week’s message. I’ve been asking myself, are there any references to the Hope of the Resurrection within Psalms? After-all David was called ‘a man after God’s own heart‘ (refer to 1 Samuel 13:14 & Acts 13:22) and he longed to live with the Lord for ever.
Psalm 15 starts of with David asking the question; “God, who gets invited to dinner at your place? How do we get on your guest list?” Psalm 15:1-2 (The Message). And the rest of the psalm goes on to show that those who remain in the Lord, who take on his teachings and live a godly life, doing what is right!
Psalm 16 starts off, almost as if to show that there are many gods, idols all vying for our attention. And I just love the way that the Message puts it; “Don’t just go shopping for a god. Gods are not for sale.” Psalm 16:4.
As we look at David’s life he remains true to the One True God (admittedly along the way their are some blemishes, but he always returns to the Lord, seeking forgiveness).
Psalm 16:8-11 goes on to say that; “Because you are close to me and always available, my confidence will never be shaken, for I experience your wrap-around presence every moment. My heart and soul explode with joy—full of glory! Even my body will rest confident and secure. For you will not abandon me to the realm of death, nor will you allow your Holy One to experience corruption. For you bring me a continual revelation of resurrection life, the path to the bliss that brings me face-to-face with you.” (The Passion Translation).

So, may we each experience anew the joy, the bliss, that comes from knowing that Jesus has conquered death and rose on the third day, so that we could have life. May he also show us the way of life as we draw closer to him in these days.
For our God’s not dead, He is surely alive and He’s living on the inside – That is the Hope of the Resurrection!
