Archive for October, 2020

This Sunday 18 October we commence a new sermon series looking at the book of Malachi.

Malachi is the last book of the Old Testament and it would appear that the Israelite people are being rebuked for their lax religious and social behaviour.

There are many lessons that we can learn from the book of Malachi as we endeavour to live God-honouring lives in our day and age; especially if we are to be examples of what it means to live out our Christian lives in such a way that people will be drawn to the ‘life and hope’ that we espouse as we reach out into our local communities and beyond.

Messages from this series have been adapted from Mark Driscoll’s sermon series that he presented to Mars Hill Church in late 2013 / early 2014.

So if you are in the Inner City of Wellington on Sunday morning, why not come and join us @ 10:30am at 92 Vivian Street, Wellington – Limited parking is available on site via 6 Jessie Street.

For those of you that are unable to attend for whatever reason or are wanting to check us out online you can view our ‘Church Online’ Service @ 6pm (NZ Time).

Links will be posted on our Wellington City Corps and Wellington Citadel Band Facebook pages and on this site on Sunday afternoon.

Please share these far and wide amongst your friends, family, social media contacts etc. so that we can continue reaching out with God’s love to those that may need it in these uncertain times, as we endeavour to ‘bring life and hope to the Inner City of Wellington’ and beyond.

May God continue to bless and encourage you as we each endeavour to live out our Christian Faith in these challenging times that we find ourselves in 🙂

If you were unable to join us last Sunday at 10:30am in-house, or at 6pm when we hosted ‘Church Online’ on our facebook Wellington City Corps or Wellington Citadel Band pages, you can have a recap of what we covered during our meeting by clicking on the link below.

This week we concluded our sermon series looking at ‘Heroes of the Faith’ – Looking at people of faith that have had a lasting impact, or influence on our lives; exploring aspects of their faith and the characteristics that appeal to the preacher / speaker and why, and how they can relate for each and every one of us as we continue living out our Christian faith.

We were extremely blessed to have Major Jeanine Serevi come and preach on Nehemiah. Mjr. Jeanine is the Central Division Youth and Children’s Secretary and she provided an overview of the first six chapters of the book of Nehemiah, unpacking the characteristics that appeal to her and why.

We hope and pray that through the words and music that you hear, and the many talents used in His service to bring this meeting to you each week, that you will be uplifted in your spirit and encouraged as you continue trusting in God and living out your journey of faith. Knowing that through His Holy Spirit He goes with you, He is walking beside you, and He is also preparing a way forward for you.

If you’d like to check out our previous services you can subscribe to our Corps YouTube Channel. You can also subscribe to the Wellington Citadel Band Channel where we have highlights of our recent tour to Singapore and Japan in 2019.

For those of you that have stumbled across this site, page or post and may want to know more about the Christian faith and what this can do to impact your life – why not check out the Gospel Message page as we all have a responsibility to share the “Good News” with others especially in today’s world 🙂

This year, many of us have had to adapt to a “new normal” that doesn’t feel normal. Sudden life adjustments like this can negatively impact mental health and lead to chronic fatigue and burnout.

Yet, in the midst of this, God still calls us to come to Him, promising to give us rest. One way we draw closer to God is by spending time in His Word, but how do you make time with God a daily habit? And then, how do you bridge the gap between knowing Scripture and living it out every day?

There are 5 seamless steps (that form an easy to remember acronym) that can help you PAUSE, rest, and study the Bible every day – even when you feel overwhelmed.

They have been created by the team at YouVersion Bible App and I’ve created a page under the Corps (Church) Ministry / Life Groups entitled How Do You Study the Bible?

Hopefully this can assist those of you that would like to know how you can study the Bible more easily in this day and age utilising an extremely handy platform.

Blessings 🙂

I came across the following the other day on the Scleroderma New Zealand facebook page and I thought that it is too good not to share here also 🙂 Scleroderma – A Life in Pain and Stone. Written by Diane Begley. This picture is such a great sculpture to bring awareness and understanding. It is straight to the point, this is what it does to us! Scleroderma is an autoimmune disease of the connective tissue featuring skin thickening, spontaneous scarring, blood vessel disease, varying degrees of inflammation, associated with an overactive immune system. Autoimmune diseases are illnesses which occur when the body’s tissues are attacked by its own immune system. Scleroderma is characterized by the formation of scar tissue (fibrosis) in the skin and organs of the body. This leads to thickness and firmness of involved areas. Scleroderma, when it’s diffuse or widespread over the body, is also referred to as systemic sclerosis. As many of you are aware this is a journey that I am on to not only get an understanding of how it is affecting my body, but also what measures, medications etc. I need to adopt to ensure that I get fullness in life. You can read about some of my journey thus far here, or check out the following; You can also check out the latest newsletter produced by Scleroderma New Zealand here.

In 1995 at the World Conference on Women in Beijing, countries unanimously adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – the most progressive blueprint ever for advancing the rights of not only women but also girls.

Furthermore in 2011 the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child, highlighting the unique challenges they face around the world.

The International Day of the Girl focuses attention not only on the need to highlight and address these challenges, but also to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by world leaders in 2015, embody a roadmap for progress that is sustainable and leaves no one behind. (I have previously posted about the SDGs here and how we are promoting this locally).

In New Zealand the International Day of the Girl is a reminder that not every Kiwi child gets the childhood they deserve. Shakti, a refuge for ethnic women in New Zealand, is promoting the day to highlight the veiled childhoods of some of our girls.

Shockingly, up to 50 per cent of Shakti’s crisis work is with girls forced into underage marriages. ‘It’s surprisingly prevalent in migrant communities,’ says Shakti spokesperson Polly Peña, who recently helped set up a safe house in Wellington.

Chris Frazer, social justice advocate for the Salvation Army’s Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit (SPPU) says that ‘overwhelmingly, extreme poverty and deprivation continues to wear a female face.’ She is working with Shakti to promote the International Day of the Girl. ‘We are all made in God’s image. And girls – as well as boys – deserve the chance to grow and thrive in the knowledge they are loved, respected and valued,’ she says.

Sunday 11 October provides ‘each one of us the opportunity to read, reflect, pray and above all, to act to bring violence, harmful judgment and indifference to an end.’
