Friday night saw an awesome turn out at Youth Group for the first of this terms Buzz Quiz nights.

     Youth Group       IMPACT Youth Group

Last term we introduced an Intermediate age youth group which we have named IMPACT to compliment our High School age group called AMPED which has proved to be quite successful; so much so that if the growth continues we will need to bring on at least one more leader (if not more) to assist us reaching out to young people in our community.

To coincided with the Olympics theme we are taking an in-depth look at the Olympics and what it means to keep going no matter what. Using Philippians 3:14 as our key scripture we’ll be exploring the attributes (characteristics) of athletes and identify how we might use the same attitudes to ‘press on’.

To keep up to date with what’s happening each week check out the AMPED Facebook page.

With Easter just a few days away it seems only right and proper that the theme for our Prayer & Fasting gathering this evening would be ‘The Easter Message’. That people would not only hear it but that they would be impacted by the message and that it would bring about life change in their lives.

Tomorrow night a group of young people from the church will be heading to Spencerville for Eastercamp and it is my prayer that they will not only hear ‘The Easter Message’ but that they will respond to it as well. That the power of Christ would dwell in their hearts and that they would be free from the pressures of this life and that they would be able to share that same message freely with their friends and family.

Their is power in the cross if we just let it permeate into our being and accept that we are not in control of everything in our lives and that we are part of a much bigger plan.
May you hear the Easter Message and respond positively to it…

On Saturday @ 9:00am we will be meeting @ the church hall so we can head to ‘Southern Sevens’ in Timaru. This is an annual sporting event held by the Southern Division and is an awesome opportunity to meet young people from around the South Island.

You’ll need to bring sports get up i.e. shorts, tracksuit, sneakers etc. As well as a packed lunch, snacks & plenty of bottled water. Also, it’ll pay to bring some pocket monies for additional snacks on the way home…

We’ll need to be in Timaru by 11:30 for registrations & we kick off @ about noon after finding out the draw. At this stage I have it on good authority that we’ll be playing 2 games of each sporting code (touch rugby, football, netball & volleyball) and if we make it through to the finals who knows – can’t wait it is going to be a blast!

On the way home we’ll be stopping in Ashburton for some refreshments @ ‘Macca’s’ hope they have plenty of burgers ready to go…

So get your stuff together & let’s have some fun…

AMPED Youth Group

Awesome night @ AMPED Youth Group tonight. We kicked off the night with the first of our Buzz Bible Quizzes which is open to any young people who are Intermediate age and up… We are looking at holding these on the last Friday night of the month, concentrating on a specific book of the Bible each month. Next month we will be looking at the book of Ruth so get your Bibles out and read the story a few times or more to get a heads up…

We ended the night with a few games of Mafia which was a blast – For some reason Liam had it in for Melissa & tried to get her out of the game more often than not…

Since arriving home Patrick has created a page on Facebook so that everyone can connect & keep up to date with what’s going on @ AMPED.

Awesome night at AMPED Youth Group tonight although at times it did get just a tad loud, but I guess that’s what you expect from a group of teenagers at the end of a week. They need to let steam off and providing that they are learning some valuable stuff about God in the process I’m not to concerned…

Tonight the group had a huge amount of fun playing the game “Headbands” where they have to guess the name that they have been alotted (which is hidden from them) by asking the others in the group. Some proved to be a bit obvious, while others took a considerable amount of time to guess who they were… Where’s Wally proved to be one of the hardest to guess even when the clues more or less gave it away.

We then spent time watching the nooma DVD ‘Name’ which is presented by Rob Bell, which focussed on the importance of knowing who we are and in particular our name.

In a world with so many things vying for the attention of our young people and impressing on them who they should or shouldn’t be, sometimes they can find it hard to work out who they are. Especially “Who they are in Christ”which is something that they need to grasp as they get older as they continue on a journey of faith.

Unfortunately we see many people in society never really knowing who they are and they live out a false persona, ultimately trying to be someone they aren’t. If only I could be like such and such, or if only I could have what so and so has that will make me happy.

When in reality our goal should be, to be everything that God has created and called us to be. We are all unique, we are all valuable, and we all matter to Him. He knows your name!

This coming Sunday @ 6:00pm is the Sydenham Corps Youth Service – What better way to kick off a New Year than to get together for an awesome time of music, friendship, sharing and of course learning something special about where God fits into 2012 for you.

Bring a plate of supper to share afterwards…

We’ll be taking a car load or two across town to this so if you are keen – drop us a line by leaving a comment below, or give Perry a call at either the office or mobile to confirm a seat – we’ll more than likely head over about 5:30pm, leaving from the quarters and we can do pick-ups on the way!
