On the 3rd of August Major Dr. Harold Hill (r) was ‘Promoted to Glory’, and among the many tributes that were shared over the ensuing weeks they showed the measure of a man he had become in his lifetime.

He was well known for his many writings and had contributed to the Australasian Journal of Salvation Army History as well as writing articles, papers, books etc. here in New Zealand.

Harold has left a lasting legacy across the board on many people’s lives, both within The Salvation Army and the wider Church community, but also within the community at large, especially here in Wellington.

Harold and Pat Hill were Corps Officers of the Wellington City Corps approximately 30 years ago and oversighted the build of the current Corps building in the early 1990’s, having relocated from Invercargill Corps.

I was privileged to have had a few classes under his tutelage while at training college and he was a wealth of knowledge, he will be sorely missed by many.

Mjr. Kingsley Sampson (r) another tutor at Training College, and fellow Officer colleague while in the Southern Division wrote a fitting tribute in The Australian Journal of Salvation Army History (see pages 123-128).
